Wireless Outdoor Stereo Speakers

Computers have developed a lot in the last years, and along with them the computer speakers too. These days you can find some really powerful speakers, that are capable of giving a high quality sound, and they don’t even have to be very big for this. Actually you can find some very tiny speakers these days, that still give  a good sound. There are many types of speakers, depending on their size, shape, price and sound quality.

Some of the most powerful are the floor standing speakers, and if you are using some speakers of this type you can bring the disco right in your own room. Or if you are using a surround sound system you can live great movie sensations, just like you are at a cinema. But all of these speakers, especially the surround sound systems will have a lot of wires that you will need to be placed all over your room and under your desk, and if you have a small and crowded room, this might be a problem for you. But don’t worry because there is a solution for you too!  And this is to buy some wireless speakers.

These are specially made speakers that don’t have any wires…so you will have much more freedom when choosing where to place them in the room, and you won’t be stopped by the length of the wires. But you can go even further, and place the speakers in another room rather than the room where your computer is. So you can place them in the kitchen, or in the bathroom or even outside the house. You can put them anywhere you like, as long as you are in the specified range of the transmitter. The transmitter will be connected to the computer (or any other music source – CD, MP3, DVD player, radio etc.) and it will stay in that room. And the speakers will be placed anywhere else, and the transmitter will send radio waves to the speakers to allow them to give the music.

Usually the specified range for a transmitter is between 150 and 300 feet. But in reality the range will not always match with the specified number. This also depends on the obstacles found in the way of the radio waves. If between the transmitter and the speakers there are many thick walls to go through, and other obstacles, the radio waves will not go as far as they should. Therefore you won’t have any sound at all, or the sound will be with noises and interferences.

That’s why it would be perfect to test the wireless outdoor stereo speakers before buying them. If the seller agrees with this, then you can take them in your own home, and see which are the places where the sound is good, and in what places the speakers are not performing so well. It is also recommended to make some research before buying a specific model of wireless speakers. Some of them had troubles, and the sound was not so clear because of the interferences, so you might want to stay away from those models. Just search on the internet for reviews given by persons who already used those speakers. If the ratings are reviews are good, and people were pleased with the speakers, then you can buy them…but if the reviews are not so good, you will probably regret that you have spent your money on those speakers.

A model of wireless speakers known to be good is the AW 871 from Acoustic Research. You can buy them for about 180 dollars and the sound will be quite nice. They work on a frequency of 900 Mhz for the radio waves, and the specified maximum range is 300 feet. The producer is saying that the sound will be good even through walls, floors, ceilings and other obstacles and the users agree with this. Of course it is not recommended to place the speakers exactly at 300 feet from the transmitter, but if you will stay up to 250 feet distance, the sound will be great. So you can place them anywhere you want in the house, and even outside.

They have a power of 10 watts RMS for each speaker (this means a total power of 20 watts RMS), so they will behave quite nice and you can even have an outdoor party using these speakers. Of course the sound won’t be heard in all the neighborhood, but still it will be ok. You can use them with many audio sources such as: computers, MP3 players, CD and DVD players, TV-s, VCR-s, cassette players and others. They also have a jack for headphones, in case you might want to enjoy some sound on your own without disturbing the others. Let’s say for example that you are sleeping with your husband / wife, or brother / sister or whatever… and it is late at night and you don’t have any sleep. So a good idea to keep you busy will be to watch a movie. But the other person in bed next to you is sleeping, so you can’t turn on the speakers because you will wake him /  her up.

It won’t be a problem if you have some wireless speakers…you will turn on the computer, play the movie, and you will take one speaker in bed next to you. Then you will plug in the headphones, and voila!...you will be able to enjoy the sound from the movie, in your own bed, without the other person to hear anything! The speakers are not big at all, so taking one in bed next to you won’t be a problem. Each speaker has 1 inch dome tweeter and a 4 inch woofer, meaning that they will give a rich sound, through all the sound ranges.

The frequency response is quite very good, going from 20 hz to 20.000 hz. The signal to noise ratio is > 55 db and the stereo separation is > 20 db. They also have a feature that auto adjusts the transmitter so send the waves correctly to the speakers, depending on their location. Another good feature is that you can choose to play them in mono or in stereo. So when having one speaker in a room, and the other in another room, you will choose mono, and each of the speaker will give the full sound. But if you have both speakers in the same room, you will choose to play in stereo, and each speaker will focus on its specific sound. The control is simple: one of the speakers has a knob for the volume, and the on and off power button.

They work on rechargeable batteries, and whenever you connect them with the AC power plug, the batteries will recharge, while they can still be playing music. One negative issue (that is not found just at this model, but usually at all the wireless speakers) is that the radio waves may interfere with other devices from your home. So if you find out that they are interfering with a specific device, try to change their position and avoid those devices. So after all they are small but good (actually some of the best) wireless speakers.

This was just a model of wireless outdoor stereo speakers, but of course there are many more others on the market. So if you have some speakers of this type, share your opinions with us, and let all  the other people know if they worth their money or not. If you are tired of all the wires hanging on and under your desk, and you wish to have total freedom when placing your speakers, then you should definitely choose some wireless speakers. But if you are looking for a perfect and clear sound, and the wires are not such a big problem for you, then we recommend you to buy some classical speakers.
