Sony SRS-50 Stereo Speakers

Today we are going to focus on the electronics segment, and to be more precise on the Sony speakers. Actually we are going to discuss about just one model of speakers from the company, and we’ll choose the Sony SRS M 50 stereo speakers. There are not just simple stereo speakers, they are also portable speakers. We can call them portable because of their very small and lightweight design, and also because of the fact that these speakers can run on batteries. You can use the AC charger when you are at home and the batteries whenever you need to take the speakers with you, on the road, in the office, at school or in any other place. You can connect them to a computer when being at home or to a laptop or MP3 player when being on the road.
The price range for these speakers is between 30 and 40 dollars, depending on the store you get them. They have a modest total power of 5 watts RMS, but after all this is enough for when you are traveling. Being in a car or a train, at school or in an office, you might not want to disturb the other people around you so you won’t even need more power. Of course this can be a small power for your home, so if you are looking for some powerful stereo speakers then you should search for another model. The two small speakers are also magnetically shielded, so you can place them close to a monitor or TV, without interfering with it.
The speakers are specialy made so they can clip together to allow you to carry the easily , and set them up apart after. Unfortunately there won’t be a carrying case included with the speakers, so you will have to buy one. But if you don’t want to buy one, you can simply carry the speakers in a bag or a backpack and place them among your luggage. Another negative aspect is that there won’t be any batteries included. So beside a carrying case you will also have to buy some batteries to enjoy the sound of these speakers wherever you like.

As we already mentioned the speakers are quite small, and here are their dimensions: 2.76 " x 2.93 " x 2.93 " (70 mm x 74.5 mm x 74.5 mm). The design is simple but also cute, and you can choose the speakers in three different colors: black, white or pink. So after discussing all of the technical details, you will probably ask yourself “Well, how these speakers sound?”. The answer is “really good”. They have a special technology included so they can have a good stereo separation. The lack of the stereo separation is a problem to many stereo speakers, and especially to the portable ones. But this is not a problem for the Sony SRS M 50 speakers. The sound is also quite clear and it will stay clear even at higher volumes. But this is actually one of the negative aspects of these speakers: the volume. As many users are complaining, the volume just isn’t loud enough. It is true that the sound is much more clear and good than in a normal set of speakers or laptop speakers, but the volume is pretty much the same. So it is up to you to decide if you still want these speakers or not. Of course if you are not the type of person to play music at very loud volumes, then you can definitely choose these speakers, and you will be satisfied with them. But if you are looking for something loud and powerful, then search for other speakers.

The speakers are connected with a 32 inch cable, and also with another shorter cable coming out of the left speaker, which ends in a 3.5 mm straight plug, for connecting with a computer or music player. The left speaker also has a DC input, a button to turn the power on and off and a volume knob. The right speaker features the batter compartment in the back.
The ratings for these speakers are quite ok, and most of the users are giving 3 or 4 stars out of 5. The reviews agree on the fact that they sound good, but they just don’t have enough volume, for a more pretentious user. So after all these are small and cute speakers, that also sound pretty good. No matter what kind of music you prefer, it will sound good on these speakers, and it doesn’t matter that the volume doesn’t go so loud, because they are travel speakers, and the way they sound is just enough for a hotel room or office.
