These kind of speakers are usually very small, and light weighted, so that you can carry them with you anywhere you go. They also don't have a lot of cables like the regular speakers, they have just one cable. This is used both for the audio signal and for power. So the speakers are getting energy from the laptop, that means they won't need batteries or a mesh to be plugged in. You wont have any problems when installing or connecting them, because there is just one place where you can connect them : into the USB port. That means you wont have color codes to be careful of, or other stuff like that (problems which you can have when installing a surround sound system). They don't need any software, because they will be automatically recognizes due to the "plug n' play" tool from your computer. So just plug them into the USB port, and enjoy your music wherever you want. They can be used by students who are traveling a lot with their laptops, or by a business man who has many conferences in different places.

Some people may consider that it is best to get some headphones for your laptop. Yes that is true...the headphones will give you a better quality of sound, but this can only be enjoyed by yourself. So the portable speakers are recommended for the times when you want to share your music or movies with friends, family or other people (for example other business men at a conference). It is up to you to decide which is the best solution for your laptop.

Now we'll talk more about some portable computer speakers. We'll begin with the Sound Bite Xtreme Black USB speaker. It is very small and compact, and also the price is affordable (35 dollars). The dimensions for this speaker are just 4.73 " x 4.73 " x 1.78 ", and it has included 2 small satellites and one little woofer, all in the same unit. That means it will give a pretty nice and deep bass, which is quite unusual for this class of speakers. Just plug it in the USB port, and enjoy, no need for installation. It also has a 3.5 mm jack that allows It to be connected to an MP3 player. It also features a carrying pouch and a volume control unit. The volume can go pretty loud, without too much distortion of sound. Like we said before these kind of speakers have just one cable, and the cable for this speaker has about one feet. So you will have to use it close to your laptop, but if you want a bigger distance, you can buy a USB extender cable. After the sound quality and the great portability, makes it a good speaker that worths its money.

If you are looking for some stereo portable speakers, made out of 2 pieces, you can choose the Creative Labs N 400. They are more complex than the "one piece" speakers, so the price is also bigger (70 dollars). They feature the Xtreme Fidelity technology which will make them sound good and balanced. Also due to this technology the sound will not seem just like a regular stereo sound, it will seem like the sound from a surround system. The dimensions for one speaker are 1.8 x 2.9 x 6.8 inches with a weight of 2 pounds. With the speakers you will also get a travel case. That means you will be able to easily carry them with you, and to enjoy your music wherever you are, at a good quality, a much better quality than the one from you integrated laptop speakers.

Some other portable computer speakers that are coming in 2 pieces are the Logitech Z5 Omnidirectional USB 2.0 speakers. As you can notice in the image, or in the name, they have a special design which will bring you the sound in all the directions. The price is pretty good - 30 dollars, and they also feature a remote control with volume control, play / pause / forward / back controls and also the on / off button.

The last set of portable speakers which we'll talk about today are the XT2 speakers from Altec Lansing. The official price is 150 dollars, but if you search you will be able to find them much more cheaper in the internet. They a cool and powerful sound, and they also have an integrated microphone. This is a feature that just a few portable speakers have. So that means you will be able to talk with your friends over the internet, or use them in a conference to communicate with your business partners. They also have a cool design, so they will worth the money. Enjoy!
