MartinLogan Source

Obscure brand names are back in full effect. This time I found some strange-looking floor-standing loudspeakers from MartinLogan. They are dubbed Source… the source of weird stuff, I reckon. Just look at them.

Anyhow, MartinLogan claims that Source is the world's most affordable high-performance hybrid electrostatic loudspeaker you’ve ever encountered. In order to provide a never-before-heard experience, Source integrates all sorts of fancy technologies patented by MartinLogan. First of all, there’s the ultra-high-resolution AirFrame which enables Source to reproduce exceptionally dynamic and realistic sound waves. Next is an 8-inch woofer followed by MiniETC (Energy Transfer Coupler) spikes and high-end crossover engineering to further boost the entire frequency spectrum.

If you’ve never heard of electrostatic panels before, here’s some info on how MartinLogan manages to manufacture them. Source includes the CLS (Curvilinear Line Source) Generation 2 electrostatic panels. These panels are built using a new thin-film plasma-deposition process which applies an improved conductive coating to the ultra-low-mass PET (polyethylene terathylate) diaphragm for superior adhesion and abrasion resistance, as well as a better impedance characteristic. Moreover, the patented MicroPerf stators expose more of the diaphragm surface, dramatically expanding effective radiating area without increasing panel size.

If you want to find more about tech specs check out the official page. You can get a pair of these for about $2000.
