Logitech does not produce only computer speakers, and is actually one of the biggest producers of computer accessories in the world. It has many years of experience, and is making today many products such as mice, keyoards, webcams, gaming accessories, microphones, and as we mentioned before, computer speakers.

You can find many kinds of speakers in the Logitech’s offer, from small stereo speakers to powerful surround sound systems. But today we are not going to discuss about neither of these, and we’ll talk about a 2.1 audio system. And we are going to choose the Logitech X 240 speakers.

If you don’t already know, a 2.1 system is the next best thing after some regular stereo speakers. Beside two speakers of this type, the 2.1 system also has a subwoofer. The satellite speakers will give the same normal sound as you are used to (mostly the high and mid range frequencies) and the subwoofer will complete the range of sounds by bringing the low and deep frequencies. Or in another words, the subwoofer will give the bass. A subwoofer will bring a new dimension to your music, making it sound more close to a real concert or a club, and it will also give a new sound to your movies and video games. So if you are not satisfied with the classic stereo speakers, and you also don’t want to fill up all your room with the wires of a surround sound system, then you should choose a 2.1 system.

Now let’s get back to our system, the Logitech X 240. If you wonder what 2.1 system to buy for under 50 dollars, then you should definitely choose this one. The normal price for this system is 35 dollars, but you can find it even cheaper in some retail stores or sites, for just about 10 – 15 dollars. Now you may be wondering what can you get for such a small amount of money…will you receive something that sounds and looks good, or you will just get some plastic imitations that will break in a short time. Well here is what we found out:



Beside the two stereo speakers and the subwoofer, the system also has a nice control unit. Many audio systems are having all the controls on the subwoofer. And this speaker will usually stay under your desk So every time you will want to change the volume you will have to crawl under the desk. But this is not the case for the Logitech x 240, because it features the control unit we mentioned before. This has all the controls, and the on and off button, which also acts like a LED, to tell you when the system is turned on. On this control pod you will also be able to connect your headphones, if you wish to enjoy some music on your own and not disturb the people around you. But this is not all…the control unit also has a docking space for your ipod or mp3 player.

The satellite speakers are quite small, meaning that you will easily be able to place them anywhere on your desk. They also come with long wires, meaning that you will have more freedom when deciding where to place them. Each of the satellite speakers has 6.9 inches in height, 2.6 inches in width, 3.8 inches in depth. The dimensions for the subwoofer are: 8.7 inches in height, 5.9 inches in width and 8.7 inches in depth. The subwoofer has a 4 inch bass driver, that is placed under it, and on the back of the subwoofer you will find a volume knob, to control the volume of the bass.

So here are some of the technical details for this system: it has a total power of 25 watts, divided into 5 watts for each satellite speaker and 15 for the subwoofer. This may not seem like a lot, but it’s quite enough for a small room, and for a nice and pleasant audio experience. And let’s not forget the small price that you will pay for the system, so 25 watts is a fair power. The frequency response is between 40  hz and 20.000 hz, making the sound rich and full, through all of the sound ranges. And finally the signal to noise ratio is 96 db.



So after all these speakers sound pretty good. Of course they can’t be compared to other speakers that have prices of hundreds of dollars, because those will sound much more better.  But for its price category, this system is unbeatable. You will be able to connect it to a computer, a laptop and also to any portable music device (cd player, ipod, mp3 player), and it will always give a decent sound, that will fill a small room. No matter what style of music you prefer (some classic music or rock or house music) this system will give you a nice audio experience. It behaves good when watching a movie too, and also when playing a video game. Thanks to the subwoofer you will hear a great sound whenever there is a gun fire or a explosion.
