Logitech 50mm Portable Speakers

Published by HqSpeakers, on January 30th, 2010, in the categories: Logitech

Logitech is one of the biggest producers of computer accessories in the world. It has quite a lot of years of experience in this domain,  selling its products all over the world. The Logitech’s products are famous because they have quite a small and accessible price for most of the users, and they are also good. The company produces and sells many products, and here are just some of them: mice, keyboards, webcams, microphones, speakers, steering wheels and so on.

Even though the company does not focus just on the audio segmen, it offers a few models of speakers that are quite good. Among the Logitech speakers you can find stereo speakers, 2.1 systems, surround sound systems and also speakers for the iPod. Today we are going to discuss about a model of iPod docking station, and we’ll choose the Logitech mm 50. If you don’t already know, the iPod is a very small, portable music player. It has a good memory allowing you to stock hundreds of songs and it comes with a set of headphones.

So you can take it wherever you go, and enjoy your favorite music without disturbing the other people around you. Therefore, you can use an iPod in the bus, the train, at work, in the classroom or in any other place you want. But what if you want to use the music from your iPod at a party, or at a picnic and let the others hear the music too? Well, in this case you will need some iPod speakers. These are also small and portable devices, with 1, 2 or many speakers included that also have a docking place as your iPod.

So here is the Logitech mm 50 docking station:

As you can see it has quite a simple but elegant device, a black color to easily fit anywhere you place it and 4 integrated speakers. Some of these speakers will focus on the low frequencies (the bass) while other will focus on the mid range and high sounds, bringing you a full and rich sound. The device is not really cheap, but is not expensive either…it costs around 110 dollars. In some stores you will find it cheaper, in others more expensive, so that’s why it is best to always search for the best deal. The device is small, portable, making it easy for you to take it anywhere you go. It runs with Li-ion rechargeable batteries, that can last up to 10 hours, so it will be just perfect to take on a picnic, or on a road trip and enjoy the music from the iPod. While it is playing the music it will also recharge the battery from your iPod.

It features a 3-D sound processing technology that widens the stereo effect, and the sound will seem to come from an area much more wider than the speaker itself. It also comes with a custom travel case, allowing it to be easier to carry, and the case will also protect it from damage.

If you like white more than black, then you can choose to buy the Logitech mm 50 portable speaker in white. Along with the device, the carrying case and the charger for the batteries you will also receive a useful remote control, that will give you total control over the volume and the tracks from distance.

The ratings for this speaker are quite very good, most of the users giving the perfect score: 5 out of 5 stars. The overall rating is 4.5, and the reviews are quite good too, meaning that most of the users were really pleased with this device. They are saying that the speaker sounds quite good, with a clear and rich sound, and that it goes quite loud, louder than many speakers of this size. Some users are saying that the Logitech mm 50 is the best value and performance for its class.

One negative feature is that you can’t see the indicator of the volume anywhere, and at the maximum volume the sound will be a little distorted. When comparing the price of this iPod dock to others, it will be quite better. For example the InMotion IM 7 from Altec Lansing costs 249 dollars, the Bose SoundDock costs 299 dollars so these are much more expensive. Others products from Altec Lansing, the IM 3 costs 179 dollars and the IM 5 149, so the Logitech mm 50 is still the best offer. It is quite a solid speaker, with dimensions of 12.75 inch x 3.74 inch x 1.4 inch and a weight of about 1.6 lbs.

Beside using the remote control, you can also control the device using the four buttons from the top of the dock. Two of them are for volume control, one is to turn on the surround sound and 3 D sound effects and one is for the power on an off. There is also a LED here, that will show you the state of the speaker. When this lights in purple it shows that the speaker is playing on battery power, when is running in red it means that the battery level is low, when it is blinking blue it means that it is charging from the AC power, and when the light is blue it means that it is fully charged from the AC adapter.

So after all this is a good iPod speaker, at an attractive price, a simple and compact design and also a nice and clear sound, that can also be set as a surround sound. Since most of the persons who had used it were really happy with it, you would definitely enjoy it too. So if you have used the Logitech mm 50 portable speaker, please share all your opinions with us, no matter if they are positive or negative reviews.
