Krell LAT-1000

These “transducers” further improve on Krell’s CAST – Current Audio Signal Transmission – technology. Being a floor standing device, the LAT-1000 speaker is quite massive, incorporating separate drivers for low, mid and high frequencies. All circuitry is on 1/8-inch thick glass epoxy circuit boards with 4 oz. copper traces, ensuring low microphonic effects, low resistance, low inductance, and high current handling.
The new design also features 8" custom made woofer drivers and a new bass port arrangement. The midrange frequencies are handled through a second order Bessel high pass filter @ 275 Hz and third order Butterworth high pass filter @ 1,850 Hz, which optimize frequency response and power output. Finally, the tweeter crossover is complemented by a third order high pass filter @ 2,800 Hz. According to Krell, the overall impedance curve is extremely smooth, and sensitivity is a high 91 dB SPL at 1 meter with 1 W input. An interesting addition seems to be the custom gold-plated brass binding post terminals, which are supposed to deliver optimum signal transfer.
If you ask me, I'd say that metallic finish gives it an exclusivist air. But here comes the price… $55,000 per pair. For more information visit the official page.
