We all know that most of the new computers that you can buy from the store come with some default stereo speakers. Usually they are small and they don’t so good so that’s why many people choose to buy some new speakers for their computer. It’s the same when buying a notebook. This won’t come with some external stereo speakers, but it will have some integrated speakers that some times sound even worse. So if you want to enjoy a good audio experience in this case you will also need to buy some new speakers.



So let’s say that you have just bought a new set of speakers for your computer (or laptop). The installation can be quite different depending on the type of speakers you have bought, but for now we’ll discuss about the simplest of this situations – when you bought a new set of stereo speakers that sound much better than the ones you first had. The installation is quite simple, and all you have to do is plug the speaker’s cable into the audio port from your computer. Of course also plug the speakers into the AC adapter for power and be sure to turn them on, and turn the volume up. And theoretically you should hear the sound now.

But things are not always like you want them to be and it might happen that you won’t hear any sound, even though you have plugged the speakers and turned them on. First of all you must find out if there is a problem with the speakers or with your computer. A good method to find out is to take the speakers at another computer (at a friend or even at the store you bought them from) and see if there you have sound. Let’s say that the speakers worked on another computer.

So in this case you are not able to get sound on the computer but you know that the speakers work. Well here are some things that you might try and hopefully solve your problem. First of all you should find out that your sound card is working. You can do this by trying a different set of speakers or even some headphones. If you still don’t have any sound at all, then there might be a problem with the sound card and in this case you need to buy a new one.

But if there is nothing wrong with the sound card then the problem might  be in your computer, to be more precise in the operating system. Depending on the new set of speakers you bought, some models may need some drivers to work. If you didn’t received any installation CD with the speakers then you might search on the internet for the appropriate driver. But if you still can’t find any kind of driver, then there probably isn’t one. But there is still something that you can do and that might solve your problem.

So go into your operating system, at the “volume control” program. First of all check that the “master volume” is turned all the way up, or at least high so that you can hear the sound. Also be sure that the “mute” box found below the volume isn’t activated. If it is, just deactivate it. There are other channels there in the volume control, and to be absolutely sure that you have sound, just turn all of them at the maximum, and be sure that none of them is muted.
