There are many big producers of audio equipment in the world, and here are some of the big names: Creative, JBL, Logitech, Harman Kardon, Altec Lansing, Boston Acoustics and many more. But of course we can not forget about the Bose Company, and this is what we are going to talk about in this article.
The company was founded back in 1964 by Amar G. Bose, who was a professor of electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The company developed so much since then, but Amar Bose is still the Chairman and primary stockholder today. The headquarters is in Framingham, Massachusetts but the company operates with 5 plants and hundreds of retail stores all over the world. Beside speakers for the home users it also makes amplifiers, headphones, automotive sound systems and it even has contracts with the US military and with NASA. Between November 2008 and April 2009, Bose was ranked as the third company by the number of sales in the USA, for the home audio and portable audio devices.
As we mentioned before the company is selling its products all over the world. So this is why when you enter the company’s site (www.bose.com) you will get to choose your country, and there is a site in each language. Now let’s talk about some of the computer speakers from Bose.

First let’s choose the speakers called “Computer MusicMonitor”. These are pretty small speakers ideal for laptops, computers or other portable audio devices such as CD or Mp3 players. They have an elegant brushed aluminum enclosure, that will fit well in any workspace. You will find the on and off button and the volume control on the right speaker, but this is not all. Beside the two stereo speakers, it also has a handy remote control unit, which can also control the volume and power of the speakers. So if you have placed the speakers a little far from you, don’t worry because you won’t have to reach them every time you want to change the volume, just use the remote control. As we mentioned before they are very small and they have just 4.81 " H x 2.5 " W x 4.81 " D ( 12.2 cm x 6.5 cm x 12.3 cm). As you can notice in the image, they are as small as a can of cola :).
Each speakers weighs just 1.2 lbs ( 0.5 kg) so they can easily be carried around with you anywhere you go, and used with your notebook. They are easy to install and to use, and they are also video shielded, so this means you will be able to place them very close to the monitor, without interfering with it. The producer does not specify any technical details for these speakers, but we are guessing that they are not so powerful, because of the very small dimension. But from what we read in the reviews, the users are saying that these speakers will bring an exceptional sound quality with some bass included too. Also the users are giving these speakers some pretty good ratings (about 4 stars out of 5 or 8 out of 10), but they are also saying that these speakers are just too expensive. We forgot to mention the price so we apologize about that. And yeah, the price is really big, somewhere around 400 dollars. With this money you can easily but a good surround sound system, so it is up to you to decide if you are willing to spend this kind of money for some small, but good computer speakers.

Some other interesting computer speakers from Bose with a same price of 400 dollars are the Companion 5 multimedia speakers. This is a 2.1 system, so its made out of two stereo speakers and a module (subwoofer). Even the price for this system it is also pretty big, this can really be compared with a surround sound system. Bose included some advanced technologies in this system, to bring you a full and rich surround sound, using just 2 small satellite speakers and a subwoofer. It will give you a very detailed sound, just like a 5.1 system, and it will make your games and music sound totally different. It connects with a computer through a USB cable so this means there is no conversion between digital and analog, and the signals will remain digital all the time, and this will result in a much better sound quality. So you don’t need an analog audio cable, and you don’t even need a sound card to use these speakers. Beside the two cool looking satellite speakers and the subwoofer, the system also features a nice control unit. With this you will be able to control the overall volume of the speakers, and also in this unit you can connect your headphones or your iPod. The system also has an active equalization function, to make sure that all the music, games or movies will sound at their best, without you having to interact with the speakers at all. On the back of the subwoofer you will also find the volume control for the bass. All the other connectors from the back of the subwoofer are marked, so you will know exactly where to place each cable, so the installation is very simple. After all it is a good system, that will worth its money.
These were just some of the Bose products and you will find many more others like : 2.1 systems, surround sound systems (5.1), headphones and also professional speakers for stages or musicians and speakers for the car industry.
