Sony is an Asian multinational company that is originally from Japan. It has its headquarters at Tokyo but since it is a multinational corporation it has production plants and stores all over the world. It is one of the biggest producers of electronics, and it also operates in entertainment (music and movies), video games, financial services and other segments.

Like we said it’s producing electronics…all sort of electronic products. But today we are going to focus on just one of these categories: the speakers. Actually we are not going to talk about Sony speakers in general, but we are going to discuss just the Sony iPod speakers. The company is offering many models, so you’ll have where to choose from.

If you are really not in touch with the latest gadgets, and you don’t know what an iPod is, then you should know it is a very small portable music player. It is very popular among teenagers all over the world, and it actually is the best selling digital music player ever. But even though it is so small, it has a good memory and you will be able to store hundred or even thousands of songs on it. So it is much better than an old walkman that used cassettes or than a CD player that could store just about 20 songs. Usually an iPod comes with headphones, but for these times when you want to share the music with other people, you can buy some iPod speakers or docking devices. There are many on the market, and almost every big audio producer on the market is offering a few models.

So today we are going to present some of the models offered by Sony. Usually the iPod docks are made in one piece, which have 2 included stereo speakers. But Sony came with something different, it practically made a 2.1 audio system for the iPod. This is the AIR SW 10 Ti model, which is composed out of a classic docking device (with two stereo speakers) and also a subwoofer. So this way you will have both a nice sound from the speakers and a deep and powerful bass from the subwoofer. Each speaker has a power of 5 watts rms, while the subwoofer has a great power of 50 watts. So you could definitely use this device to throw a party in your own room, or when traveling somewhere, for example in a hotel room or a log. The system also features 4 built-in equalizer presets, allowing you to choose the appropriate sound for your type of music. But even if you don’t have your iPod with you, you can still play some music from this device because it has an included FM tuner so you can listen to your favorite radio station. The device also comes with a useful remote control, allowing you to operate it from anywhere in the room. It also has a easy to read 1 line LCD display. Sorry, we forgot to mention that the subwoofer is wireless, making it more easy to carry and to be installed anywhere you go. The dock has dimensions of 310 x 121 x 164 mm and a weight of 2 kg while the subwoofer has 123 x 282 x 375 mm and weighs 4 kg. The whole system is not so small and lightweight after all, but you can carry it in the trunk of your car, or in a bigger back pack. Enjoy it!

Now let’s talk about a classic iPod speaker, and we’ll choose the SRS GU 10 iP model. This one looks practically like a speaker, to be more precise a center channel. It has a wooden cabinet with a high gloss black piano finish. So it will look great on your desk or anywhere in the room, or on the road. It is also compatible with the iPhone, and when you will be receiving a phone call the music will stop allowing you to hear the phone ringing. This model also has an useful remote control, allowing you to have total control on the tracks and volumes from distance. It also features a bass boost function that will make the bass sound louder and better. It is also magnetically shielded so there won’t be any noises when the iPhone is ringing. It even has a input jack allowing you to connect it to a computer or any other audio device. It has a total power of 20 watts, which is pretty good for a small iPod speaker. It measures 320 mm W x 194 mm H x 154 mm D, and weighs just 2 kg.

Another simple, but good iPod speaker from Sony is the ICF C1 iPM K2. This one also has 2 included stereo speakers, each with a power of 3 watts rms. This is not much, but it can be ok for a small room, or when used on the road or somewhere where you don’t need quite a loud volume to not annoy other people. It has a wireless remote control, and also another cool feature: an alarm clock that will allow you to wake up on your favorite music from the iPod. This one can be also used as an FM / AM radio. It has dimensions of 300 mm W x 130 mm H x 139 mm D, and weighs around 2.5 kg.

Now let’s discuss about the Sony SRS GD 50 IP speaker system, which is called by the producer “ a perfect marriage of iPod dock and PC speakers”. This is also a 2.1 audio system, made of 2 speakers and a subwoofer. But beside these 3 components it also has a small iPod dock, where you can also place your iPhone. So you can enjoy your music from both the computer when being at home, or from the iPod when being somewhere else. The speakers can achieve a total output power of 60 watts (10 watts for each speaker and 40 for the subwoofer). The frequency response goes from 85 hz to 20 khz, and the speakers are also magnetically shielded. So you can use the close to a monitor or TV, and also near your iPhone. The satellite speakers have dimensions of: 4.92″ Height x 3.07″ Width x 3.74″ Depth and each one weighs around 14 oz.

Another model offered by Sony is the ZS S2 IP Black Sony CD Boombox. This one is a combination between the classical stereo CD player, and the new iPod speakers. So it looks and acts just like a CD player, but it also has a dock for your iPod. And beside this it also has a AM / FM tuner. So you will always have something to listen to, whether it is music from your iPod, from a CD or from the radio. The speakers will bring a good sound, with quite a nice bass due to the Mega Bass technology. It also has a remote control, giving you total control over it. Enjoy!

So here were some of the models of iPod speakers from Sony. But of course there are more, and you can discover all of them on the official site of the company, or in retail stores and retail sites on the internet. If you are already using, or used some iPod speakers from Sony, please share all your opinions with us, and tell us if you were pleased with them or not. Have a great day!

Just yesterday we talked about one of the most famous Asian brands and also one of the most famous and powerful companies in the world – Samsung. And today we are going to talk about another Asian multinational corporation – Sony. This company is originally from Japan and has its headquarters in Tokyo. But since it is a multinational company, it has subsidiaries and sells it’s products all over the world. This company also operates in many domains, such as electronics, games, entertainment (movies and music) financial services and others.

Today we are going to focus on the electronics segment, and to be more precise on the Sony speakers. Actually we are going to discuss about just one model of speakers from the company, and we’ll choose the Sony SRS M 50 stereo speakers. There are not just simple stereo speakers, they are also portable speakers. We can call them portable because of their very small and lightweight design, and also because of the fact that these speakers can run on batteries. You can use the AC charger when you are at home and the batteries whenever you need to take the speakers with you, on the road, in the office, at school or in any other place. You can connect them to a computer when being at home or to a laptop or MP3 player when being on the road.

The price range for these speakers is between 30 and 40 dollars, depending on the store you get them. They have a modest total power of 5 watts RMS, but after all this is enough for when you are traveling. Being in a car or a train, at school or in an office, you might not want to disturb the other people around you so you won’t even need more power. Of course this can be a small power for your home, so if you are looking for some powerful stereo speakers then you should search for another model. The two small speakers are also magnetically shielded, so you can place them close to a monitor or TV, without interfering with it.

The speakers are specialy made so they can clip together to allow you to carry the easily , and set them up apart after. Unfortunately there won’t be a carrying case included with the speakers, so you will have to buy one. But if you don’t want to buy one, you can simply carry the speakers in a bag or a backpack and place them among your luggage. Another negative aspect is that there won’t be any batteries included. So beside a carrying case you will also have to buy some batteries to enjoy the sound of these speakers wherever you like.

As we already mentioned the speakers are quite small, and here are their dimensions: 2.76 ” x 2.93 ” x 2.93 ” (70 mm x 74.5 mm x 74.5 mm). The design is simple but also cute, and you can choose the speakers in three different colors: black, white or pink. So after discussing all of the technical details, you will probably ask yourself “Well, how these speakers sound?”. The answer is “really good”. They have a special technology included so they can have a good stereo separation. The lack of the stereo separation is a problem to many stereo speakers, and especially to the portable ones. But this is not a problem for the Sony SRS M 50 speakers. The sound is also quite clear and it will stay clear even at higher volumes. But this is actually one of the negative aspects of these speakers: the volume. As many users are complaining, the volume just isn’t loud enough. It is true that the sound is much more clear and good than in a normal set of speakers or laptop speakers, but the volume is pretty much the same. So it is up to you to decide if you still want these speakers or not. Of course if you are not the type of person to play music at very loud volumes, then you can definitely choose these speakers, and you will be satisfied with them. But if you are looking for something loud and powerful, then search for other speakers.

The speakers are connected with a 32 inch cable, and also with another shorter cable coming out of the left speaker, which ends in a 3.5 mm straight plug, for connecting with a computer or music player. The left speaker also has a DC input, a button to turn the power on and off and a volume knob. The right speaker features the batter compartment in the back.

The ratings for these speakers are quite ok, and most of the users are giving 3 or 4 stars out of 5. The reviews agree on the fact that they sound good, but they just don’t have enough volume, for a more pretentious user. So after all these are small and cute speakers, that also sound pretty good. No matter what kind of music you prefer, it will sound good on these speakers, and it doesn’t matter that the volume doesn’t go so loud, because they are travel speakers, and the way they sound is just enough for a hotel room or office.

It’s not that often that we get to see revolutionary loudspeaker designs from the big brands. Many interesting patents are filed by smaller, obscure even brands and these tend to be transformed into very pricey products just because the smaller brands don’t have enough resources to commercialize their models in big quantities. Some of the patents are noticed and put to good use by the bigger brands, and this is exactly what happened with Sony’s Sountina concept speaker.

The Sountina NSA-PF1 non-directional speaker has been in development for a few years now, not to mention that it spent more than a year in concept stage. The speaker has a peculiar design, resembling a six-foot tall lightsabre, with its upper part made of organic glass that vibrates within the 50-20,000Hz range. The sctual power output is not specified, but the system incorporates a 13 cm subwoofer in the lower part, as well as a 7 cm mid-frequency driver, while the tweeter is integrated in the upper organic glass structure.

The novelty speaker comes packed with quite a few connectors, including an analog RCA, digital coax and optical TOS. The system also supports up to 24bit/96kHz stereo linear PCM and is accompanied by a slick aluminum remote. The base of the speaker will be available in black or silver (clad in leather) and will incorporate three color LEDs that can be adjusted to suit the environment.

Being that futuristic, the Sountina system is expected to set you back $10,200 and will hit the Japanese market on June 20th. Imagine what it would have cost if some obscure brand had managed to release the Sountina. Anyway, if you buy this thing, remember to shield it from pets and hyped kids, you don’t really want a sea of shattered organic glass in the middle of your living room.

I guess minimalism has its good and bad parts when talking about IT&C. Good, when we can squeeze more and more transistors into CPUs and chips and bad because sometimes it leads to minute thingies that are easily lost or destroyed if we don’t pay close attention to them. OK, I might understand the need for an iShuffle, but why exactly would we need speakers the size of a golf-ball? Sure, we certainly need more space, even in huge condominiums, but it’s not like normal people live in dwarf huts. Sony couldn’t care less about this line of reasoning and rolls out the HT-IS home theatre system.

So, they make all five satellites the size of a golf ball and keep the subwoofer the size of a mid-sized gas barrel. Oh yeah, that makes perfect sense now. What’s going on, Sony? Right… the system features three-HDMI input and the subwoofer comes with built-in 32-bit S-Master digital amplifier. Total RMS output is 45W x 5 channels, with 100W x 2 from the sub. Supported audio standards include Dolby Digital and DTS, Dolby Pro Logic II, MPEG-2 AAC and linear PCM, as well as Standard, Multi, and various movie and sounds modes. 45W per golf ball channel? Joke, right?

It doesn’t matter whether I believe this or not, Sony’s still releasing them in Japan on July 15 at a cost of around $870. Yes, yet another bad aspect of small technology… it sets you back small fortunes!

I sometimes find myself in that position where you have to delete data or burn a fair number of DVDs in order to free some space on my HDD for new music, films, programs or games. Annoying thing, but Sony’s figured out the music problem. Yep, it’s them Asians again.

The two new “Giga Juke” music systems are all about music storage made simple, without the need for a PC. Or I could just buy a couple of 1TB HDDs. Anyway, both audio systems have hard disk storage of their own, not to mention the high-speed copying feature from their built-in CD player to the HDD. Moreover, the systems have radio tuners and an iPod dock, meaning you can store all your iTunes stuff plus record some digital radio music as well.

First, there’s the entry-level NAS-E35HD aimed at the entry-level market. Then we take a giant leap for our ears and audio desires with the NAS-SC55PKE – a complete multi-room system with music server and wireless player unit, able to deliver music to up to five zones, wirelessly.

The Giga Jukes can store, label and organize your music in their hard disk drive using alien technology. Heh, not really, but them Asians could be getting some hints from the green guys… The NAS-SC55PKE has enough storage space for up to 40,000 music tracks, while the NAS-E35HD stores up to 15,000 music tracks. Both systems can record music from CD, vinyl, cassette, radio and MP3 players, automatically label transferred music with metadata. OK, time to put those cassette players and turntables to work, save and remaster those oldies while they still work.

Here’s some more specs for both systems:
