Sony iPod Speakers

Sony is a brand that has brought a lot to technology with their high quality products, from laptops to cameras and cell phones. Nothing can escape them, not even in the world of sound. Because they can’t make iPods, they decided to make speakers for them so you can hear your favorite tunes in high fidelity. One example of this kind of product is the RDP-XF100iP, which is a so called Portable Speaker Dock.

About a while ago, the price was about 249.95 USD. But according to their website, the price has been cut to $199.99. It’s still pretty expensive, but at the previous price, there have been complaints of poor sound quality in the bass area.

But let’s steer clear from that subject for the moment and talk about the design. It is portable, but don’t imagine it’s the tiniest thing around. It’s about 35.6 cm wide, 16.3 cm high and has a depth of around 12 cm. And it weighs almost as much as my laptop: 1.9 kg. Of course it’s not a must to take the dock everywhere, but it’s easier to carry around that a 5.1 surround sound system. And it also has some cool features, like the rechargeable battery. This baby can give you as much as 7 hours of music playback according to Sony’s website, and the same amount of time on FM reception also. Talking about the battery, while your iPod of iPhone is using the dock, it will enter a charge mode while you listen to your favorite Iggy Pop song (don’t worry, it charges to other artists’ songs, too). In terms of controls, the top of this device has a nice set of touch-sensitive buttons; but if you want to control your sound experience from a distance, you will surely enjoy the remote control that comes with the package. A neat thing about this gadget is that if you press the menu button on the remote control or the one located on the top of the device, you get a display regarding the battery life, so you know when you have to prepare it for its daily recharge.

I think all these features kind of make up for the lack of portability. A common complaint about the sound quality is the bass. It seems to be just a little too distorted at higher volumes. There are ways to work around this. For example, there are equalizer settings, or sound modes, which you can choose to find the best one for your type of music. The most recommended mode is the Flat mode, which is a quite balanced setting offering clear enough sound.

Overall this is not a bad choice in terms of iPod speakers. Especially now with the price reduction, it’s just fine for your home or office.

At home or on the street, classical music, jazz, pop and R'n'B. Regardless of musical preferences, Sony's new headphones are the ideal partner for a perfect listening experience. From high-performance professional series MDR-Z1000 to the ultra-portable EX series, Sony's new headphones are designed for comfort and immaculate sound regardless of the source.

Professional Series MDR-Z1000 sets a new standard for studio recordings. MDR-Z1000 is based on decades of audio expertise of Sony, combining the innovative design with the highest quality materials to provide the performance needed for professional recordings.

The high definition speakers with an ultra- wide range are using a newly developed diaphragm LCP (Liquid Crystal Polymer). The material is extremely lightweight and rigid, having the property to significantly reduce the resonance to play mid and high frequencies in a natural way. The comfort of prolonger use is ensured by the lightweight magnesium alloy casing which reduces the resonance for bass and treble tones. The new ear pads with noise reduction function are covered with urethane foam with low resonance, which reduces the sound leakage by eliminating the spaces between the headset and the ear of the listener. Noise insulation is also ensured by the new lining that significantly reduces sound leakage. As an additional refinement, the headset cord is made ??of an oxygen-free copper conductor Grade 7N (99.99999%) to minimize transmission losses for a clear sound.

MDR-ZX Series: studio quality sound always bearable. All ZX Series models feature a closed design, to minimize the sound leakage, keeping the music close to the soul of the user, in a crowded bus or train. The high-end model MDR-ZX700 benefits of the new 50mm speakers, ear pads for noise cancelation and urethane pad for a comfortable fit on the ear. MDR-EX series: great sound in motion. The high-end of this series is represented by the MDR-EX1000 model that provides a considerable performance for any MP3. Carefully constructed from the finest materials, the new headphones are using materials such as Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) and the new developed 16 mm speakers. The thin magnesium housing reduces the weight of the headphones for extra comfort of the user, while eliminating the unwanted resonance and giving a nice bass and clear mid-high frequencies. The cord of the headphones is using a material called Grade 7N OFC (Oxygen Free Copper) for uncompromised signal transmission. The result is an exceptionally detailed sound that fits even with the finest reference headphones for studio recordings. The wearing comfort is ensured by a cable placed above the ear and above the intra- auricular headphones. Headphones are made of a silicone / urethane material, the silicone drive offers an excellent attenuation of ambient noise. MDR-EX510LP is a model of vertical, in-ear headphones created for a special quality of the sound.

The 13.5 mm vertical diffuser allows obtaining a powerful sound, rich in detail, while maintaining the comfort level for extended periods of listening. For greater safety while wearing the headphones, a new structure of the headphones reduces the risk of losing them from the ear during use. A new membrane constructed of special material of ABS eliminates the unwanted resonance and vibrations, to provide a fluent and articulate response of the bass and clear mid-high frequencies.

Sony MDR-XD100 Review

Published by HqSpeakers, on April 19th, 2011, in the categories: Sony

The vast majority of users appreciate Sony products as being some high quality products. If you want a pleasant experience listening to music or watching your favorite movies without destroying the nerves of those in the house, Sony MDR-XD100 headphones can be a solution.

Technical Specifications
-Frequency: 12-22000 Hz
-Sensitivity: 100 dB / mW
-Magnet: Ferrite
-Impedance: 70.0 Ohm
-Cable type: OFC Litz cord, 3.5 m
-Connector: Straight stereo Unimatch (one touch type)
-Weight: 175.0 gr.

First impression
The package is normally a bit sober but highlighted by a HI-FI logo which makes us think of a quality product even if it is still an entry-level home-user class. Once unsealed, along with the cable for the headset, we get a bag with a few notes that do not contain any technical data and urge us to document more heavily on the official website. Also is located in that bag the connector / extension Unimatch for compatibility with the standard stereo. The colors are sober, silver and gray / black.

Analysis in detail
The adjustment system is simple, easy to use, solid and made of a high quality plastic. The cups are large, extremely comfortable without pressing on the ears, made possible grace to the tilt angle of 15 degrees outwards. At the feeling of comfort it also contributes the reduced size of these headphones (175 gr.). Also on each cup is engraved in relief on their basis (which is useful at night) letters L and R (right / left). The sleeves of the cups are made of sponge covered with a sheet of soft black material and quite pleasant to the touch. The cable is really long, even if the package says 3.5 meters and only carried out you can tell it is really sufficient for almost complete freedom. At the first glance, the place where the cable enters into the cup seems a bit fragile but the material / cable isolation is thick and stiff enough to provide adequate protection in case of accident or sudden movements, avoiding its tearing or breaking.

The sound is clean, but I do not recommend listening at more than 60-70% of the power of headphones because you will just feel like your brain is going to explode (and is not healthy for your ears). Isolation towards the ambient is also good, maybe too good sometimes. Although they are designed for listening to music and movies, they behave just fine in games due to the "acoustic enclosure" that the cups are creating. In terms of technological drawbacks, the biggest weakness is the lack of a small independent cable potentiometer so that all volume adjustments are made either in the hardware or with the software to which they are connected.

Sony MDR-XD100 offers powerful and clear bass and warm and pleasant sound when listening to music or movies. Lack of a small manual with technical details is a bit embarrassing for a company like Sony and I do not think it would greatly influenced the retail price. All in all Sony MDR-XD100 are high quality headphones in many respects, surpasses other products in the range and area that are addressed (entry-level, home-user), and if you are not bothered by the lack of potentiometer, this may be the perfect choice.
