The Cyclops Downfire 46.40 reminds of an obelisk. I’m not quite sure why they named it Cyclops after all. Well, I guess that lonely driver in the middle kind of looks like a cyclopean eye, but I don’t know. Anyway, the guys over at PHI present their latest version, the pared-down one of the original Cyclops 58.40. This newer model does not include the costly and hard to manufacture external filter unit.

This model is tuned for more bass output, however. Two strong points for the down-firing model are the extended low frequency range (-3dB at 44Hz) and a livelier character that deals well with the kind of music that appeals to a younger generation.

As far as construction is concerned, the units are mounted on spiked wooden plinths that house the filter components. The manufacturer says the loudspeaker can take about 20W of amplification. The original form will be manufactured from MDF in its entirety, but a wooded cabinet will also be available soon.

For more info on the PHI Cyclops, be sure to check the official site.
