Optical and coaxial cables are being used to make the digital audio connection between a DVD or a CD player and the receiver. Both types will transfer a digital signal from one device to the other. Dubbed the iBose Egg Chair, for its obvious iPod orientations, the audio system presents rounded acoustical properties, which make it an interesting sound chamber. The chair design is actually based on some 1960s models, but the team thought that it would look and feel better with black velveteen cloth. The chair also incorporates a Bose Companion 3 subwoofer along satellite speakers which reproduces the mids and highs. In order to let users connect their iPod players, the chair also comes equipped with a JBL OnTour portable speaker system sporting 1.5″ stereo speakers and an integrated amplifier, which is positioned right above the user’s head. For enhanced bass frequencies, the chair is further fitted with four Fusion 6.5″ midwoofers, powered by an Onkyo home theater receiver, with crossovers vibrating the bottom of the seat, so that listeners can really feel the vibration.

Additional connectivity includes three amplifiers from Airport Express to let you stream music to the chair over Ethernet or Wireless-G from any computer or laptop running iTunes. iBose Egg chair is specifically built to offer the best acoustic experience when coupled with an Apple Powerbook. I wonder if they could commercialize something like this for a decent price.
