In this article we’ll discuss more about some of the McIntosh home audio products. For the home users, the company makes different kinds of speakers like floor standing speakers, subwoofers, center channels and also in-wall and on-wall speakers.

A very cool looking floor-standing speaker is the XRT 28. When you’ll first see it you won’t notice anything special, but just take off the detachable grill, and see how cool it looks with all the little drivers and tweeters. There are two parallel columns of 4 inch drivers for the midrange sound, and a column of 1 inch tweeters for the high sounds. The other two big drivers below are for the low sounds. So it has 16 tweeters, 20 midranges and 2 woofers, so just imagine what a nice sound they will give.

It is tall and slim, good looking but also very powerful. The maximum power it can handle can go all the way up to 1200 watts. So it will bring you a nice, clear and powerful sound with no distortion even at high volumes. It has shielded drivers so you can use them close to TV-s or monitors without interfering with them. The frequency range for this speaker begins as low as 16 Hertz and goes all the way up to 20.000 Hertz. The speaker has 76 inches (193 cm) in height, 16 inches (41 cm) in width and 16 inches (41 cm) in depth. The total weight is about 60 kg, so that means they are not easy to carry around, but also not easy to be knocked over.

Another cool looking speaker from McIntosh is the XCS 2K. This one is a center channel. Usually a center channel will give you the high sounds, for example the voices in a movie or in a song. But of course it also gives other ranges of sound, so you can use it individually or combine it with other components and make a audio system. The producer says it can handle a maximum power of 2.000 watts! Wow! But we are not sure if these are the RMS real watts. But if they are, that means this is a really powerful speaker. Like we said, the design is nice, similar like the product before, with many small drivers on it. Actually it has three 12 inch woofers, thirty two 2 inch midrange drivers and twenty 0.75 inch tweeters.

So this speaker both looks and sounds good! It has a anechoic response of 16 Hz to 45 Hz, and the dimensions are: 19-1/4” (48.9 cm) in height x 42-1/2 ” (107.9 cm) in width x 25 ” (63.5 cm) in depth. And the weight said by the producer is an incredible 294 pounds (133.4 kg). We never seen this model of speaker before, but from what we can tell it is a large and massive speaker, and probably that 2.000 watts of power is the real power. So this might be a speaker for a club, or a concert, rather than a speaker for your small room. So if you have some information about it, please let us know.

Now let’s choose a subwoofer from McIntosh, and we’ll talk about the XLS 112 subwoofer.

It is a both compact and powerful subwoofer with a simple design. The amplified power that it can take is 400 watts. If you take off the detachable grill you will notice a massive 12 inch woofer, that provides a very deep and powerful bass. Be very careful with the volume of the bass because you can easily annoy your neighbors and make their windows to vibrate. It has a  total harmonic distortion of 0.03% and a max harmonic distortion from 250 milliwatts to 400 watts. The weighted S/N ratio is 100 dB and the input sensitivity 0.4 V. It has a low pass filter of 40 – 120 Hz, variable with a knob on the rear pane. Like we said it is pretty small, with dimensions of  15-1/2 “  (38.1 cm) H x 15 “  (38 cm) W x 15 ” (38 cm) D and a weight of 95 lbs. (43 kg).

If you have a ceiling designed with special spaces for speakers, then you should definitely use them. Not only that the in-ceiling speakers won’t take any space at all in the room, but they will also give you a nice sound, from above your head. One of the in-ceiling speakers from McIntosh is the CS 100. Even if it’s so small, it still brings a nice and full range sound. It has an 8 inch woofer, a 3 inch midrange driver and also an one inch tweeter. So that means it will give you all the ranges of sound, with a nice sound quality and an amplified power of 200 watts. The frequency response is between 48 Hz and 22.000 Hz and the nominal impedance is 8 ohms. It can also be mounted outside because it can operate within temperatures of 41 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit (5 to 35 Celsius degrees) and within humidity between 30 and 85 %. The overall dimensions are 12-7/16 ” (31.6 cm) H x 12-7/16 ” (31.6 cm) W x 6” (15.2 cm)  D, with a weight of just 8 lbs. ( 3 kg).

Like we said before, McIntosh also offers in-wall speakers and one of them is the WS 350. It has a pretty nice and simple design and also some good power and sound quality. It features a 8 inch woofer, a 4 inch midrange driver and also 5 dome tweeters of 1 inch. It has a anechoic respons of 60 hz to 20.000 hz and a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. The dimensions are 23-1/2 inch (59.7 cm) x 14 inch (35.6 cm) x 3-1/2 inch (9.3 cm) and a weight of 25 lbs (11 kg).

So as you can see, there are many good quality products offered by McIntosh, and you can trust them because of the big experience of the company of  60 years.
