Klipsch Stereo Speakers

Klipsch is one of the biggest producers of audio equipment in the world, and among the oldest ones from United   States of America. It was founded in 1946 by Paul Klipsch and since then it improved and expanded its offer of products. Today it builds all sorts of speakers for all tastes and budgets, from small headphones to big professional sound systems.

Since in previous articles we discuss about some Klipsch stereo speakers, for today we’ll choose to discuss about a 2.1 audio system made by this company. and we’ll choose a special one, the Star Wars™ ProMedia 2.1 Architectural Speakers. Since this is a 2.1 system, it means that it is composed out of 3 units: 2 small stereo speakers, and a larger subwoofer.

The subwoofer will bring the low sound frequencies (the bass) while the 2 small speakers will give the mid range and high sounds, and this way you will have a full and rich sound through all of the sound ranges. The system has a special metallic silver paint scheme and it also contains the Star Wars logo on it. The subwoofer is all grey and features a silver vinyl for durability that makes it look like it’s made from aluminum. It also features new bright blue LED power indicators and this is actually a limited series of just 1.000 units. So if you are a big fan of Star Wars and you wish to have these speakers you might hurry up, and see if there are any more speakers left. And maybe if you don’t find them anymore for new, you might find them at second hand on some auction site or retail store.

Each of the 2 speakers has a 0.75 inch poly compression tweeter, a high frequency horn and a 3 inch fibre composite cone woofer. So you will have a complex sound, through all of the sound ranges even with just the 2 stereo speakers. But along with the subwoofer, you will get a great audio experience with a much more powerful bass. Actually the frequency response for this system is 31 hz – 20.000 hz, which is very good. The maximum acoustic output is 106 db and the amplifier is a Digital / Linear A / B amplifier with discrete MOSFET output power section. The enclosure material for the satellites and the subwoofer is a medium density fiberboard.

The system can be connected with a computer and also with a CD or MP3 player. It has a headphones jack too, so you can use some headphones and enjoy music without disturbing the others around you. The dimensions for the 2 satellite speakers are: 8.5 " (21.59 cm) x 4.2 " (10.67 cm) x 5.67 " (14.4 cm) and a weight of 2.1 lbs (0.95 kg)…while the subwoofer has: 9.5 " (24.13 cm) x 9.8 " (24.9 cm) x 10.2 " (25.9 cm) and a weight of 16 lbs (7.26 kg). so they may not be the smallest speakers on the market, but they are not really huge either. They are just great to be used in a small or a regular room. They have a voltage of 110 / 120 VAC, and unfortunately there aren’t any technical details about the power of each speaker, and the total RMS power of the system. The Star Wars Pro Media 2.1 system was released in 2002, and it was just a limited edition. So today you will definitely not find it as new. But if you are lucky you can find it at someone who got bored with it and who wants to sell it. Good luck!

There are many big producers of audio equipment in the world and Klipsch is one of them. It is one of the best companies in the world, and also among the first from the United States of America. It is producing many kinds of good speakers since 1946, so with such a big experience behind it, you can be sure that the company will offer its customers the best products.

The founder of the company is Paul W. Klipsch, in case you were wondering where the name comes from. In time it came with many new products on the market offering good sound quality, wide dynamic range, low distortion and great bass. One of the most famous products from Klipsch is the Klipschorn, a speaker that offers a great sound quality and that is still produced today, after sixty years from its launching date.

There are all sorts of speakers offered by the company, and no matter which one you will choose you will hear the result of more than 60 years of research and development. The company offers many speakers, from small bookshelf or outdoor speakers to large and powerful floorstanding speakers or audio systems and it even produces headphones and iPod docks. It is not limited just at products for the home users and it also makes professional speakers for cinemas. And it is actually quite good at this, and about 50 % of the cinemas in the United States of America, Australia and Korea are using Klipsch sound systems.

Some of the best sound systems offered by Klipsch are the ones from the Palladium Series. The first thing you will notice about these speakers is its great design. They have a cool look that combines a retro style with a futuristic one. But this system doesn’t just look good, it also sounds really nice. It offers a great balance between high quality sound, performance, power and design. This system was designed thanks to the collaboration of many engineers from all over the world, and it is also selling in many countries all around the globe. In the Palladium Series you will find all of the necessary components to make a sound system: floorstanding speakers, bookshelf speakers, center channels and subwoofers. So you can combine them how you want, but you can use just two big floorstanding speakers and it should be more than enough for a room.

An example of floorstanders from the Palladium series are the P 39 F. And here are the technical details for these ones: - Frequency Response – 39 Hz -24 kHz  ± 3dB; -   Low-Frequency Extension – 28 Hz; -High-Frequency Extension  - 30 kHz; - Sensitivity – 99 dB @ 2.83V / 1m; - Nominal Impedance - 4 ohms (2.9 ohms min); - Power Handling – 400 W continuous / 1600 W peak; -  Recommended Amplifier Power - 50-1000 W; - Maximum Output Level - 126dB (2 speakers in-room); - High-Frequency Drivers  - 0.75" (1.9cm) Titanium diaphragm; -   HF Crossover Frequency  - 3200 Hz

-   Mid-Frequency Drivers - 4.5 " (11.4 cm) Aluminum diaphragm; -  MF Crossover Frequency  - 500 Hz; - Low-Frequency Drivers - Three 9" (22.9 cm) high-output, aluminum / Rohacell® / Kevlar®; -  hybrid cone woofers; - Finishes - Zebrawood in Natural, Merlot or Espresso stain; - Enclosure Type- Bass-reflex via triple side-firing ports; -  Enclosure Material - Constrained layer MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard); -  Weight - 165lbs (74.9kg); - Height 56" (142.2 cm); -  Width   12" (30.5 cm) (14.5" / 36.8 cm at the base); - Depth   - 24.75" (62.9 cm).

So if you are not an audio specialist, and those figures are not saying anything to you, then you should know that they are very good figures. The fact that these speakers have a frequency response from 39 Hz to 24 kHz shows that they will offer a full and rich sounds, through all of the sound ranges, from a very deep bass to clear high sounds.

They are able to give all of the sound ranges thanks to the three types of drivers that it has: high frequency drivers, mid frequency drivers and also woofers. The power handling of 400 Watts RMS  and the recommended  amplifier power of 50 – 1000 W shows that these are really powerful speakers that will make your entire room to vibrate and that will wake your neighbors up at any hour of the night :)  And the weight of 165 lbs (75 kg) and height of  56 inch (142 cm) are showing that these are really big and very heavy speakers.

So they have a great design and they are offering an amazing sound quality. But all of these features have a price…and in this case a really big price. They are considered to be the “Dom Perignon” of floorstand speakers, and just for two P 39F Klipsch  floorstanding speakers you will have to pay somewhere around 20.000 dollars! And this is quite an amazing price…with these money you can easily buy a new and good car.
