The medium-sized box is made of normal cardboard with a sober palette of colors and a front “window” through which it can be seen quite clearly more than half of the product. Headphones are placed in a white plastic molding; the main cable is equipped with an audio controller for volume / microphone on / off and as a bundle is offered a pair of cups for the earphones and an extension cable. The first thing that stands out is that Zowie Hammer will not win any beauty or futuristic design award but in exchange offers the filling of a very solid product because it has quite few plastic elements. The frame is made of aluminum covered with a thick rubber coating that provides flexibility and rigidity at the same time. The cups have an oval shape, providing a good coverage and isolation for a “wide range of ears”. The arm of the microphone and the microphone itself are quite voluminous, covered with a layer of powder that gives them a different feeling both visual and tactile. The adjustment system is composed of a nickel metal frame and on the sides is printed the Zowie logo on two small metal plates. As I said, the microphone arm is quite voluminous but not very long because the layer of powder with which is covered the base (in the same style with the cup) have as effect a slow movement of it, basically if you want to get off / lift up the microphone you need both hands, otherwise you will lift the headphones. Ear protections can be easily detached if you want to replace them with the other set from the package (one for gamers and other recommended for music lovers / movie enthusiasts).

Although quite voluminous the controller located on the main cable has all the functions clearly imprinted and you'll notice the use of a switch-type "slide" microphone which can prevent the unwanted activation / deactivation of the microphone as it happens with the classic “push” buttons. Another detail about the controller is that you can chose the “lavaliere” style through which the controller can be easily fixed on clothing and you will have a good control on the cable which will no longer hang freely. The sound is perfect for the games, having a high audio quality especially when the conversation between players is essential, ZOWIE Hammer providing accurate and clean reproduction of ambient sounds and especially of voices. Must and is worth mentioning the appearance of solidity that really stands out, this pairs of headphones being highly resistive.

If you have a Macintosh, portable or not, you can still connect it to your computer so you can enjoy from both a larger display and a better audio quality. All you need to do is making sure that your Mac can handle multiple displays. Then prepare all the instruments you need, which are not that many and they obviously depend on the type of connection you are looking to establish. But let’s take things one at a time…

You can choose the classic VGA connection if you have the proper video adapter for your laptop. Any TV has this type of slot, but not any Mac. If that is the case and you are still looking for this option, you will need a VGA connector – the female type, with 15 pin, to take the place of your DVI or DisplayPort slot. This second opportunity regards a certain situation – when your TV has no PC input but only a DVI-D connector. For that, you just have to buy a DVI-D connector, again the female type, to link it with the DVI or DisplayPort, plus a DVI cable. And keep in mind there are five different types of DVI slots so be sure you have the D model. If your computer has instead of a DVI a HDMI connector, get yourself a DVI-D female connector and a HDMI – DVI special cable. If it is an older model, chances are that your computer will only have a mini DVI port in which situation you will look for a connection with the RCA or S – Video TV inputs, obviously with the mini DVI – video special adapter, Apple make, and the required video cable.

Getting into action
Now that you know what it takes, you are only a few steps away from making things happen. For the VGA connection, you plug the VGA adapter into the DisplayPort or DVI slot from your computer and then you hook up the TV and the PC with a VGA cable. Make sure you have selected, on TV, the PC input and use your mini headphone or RCA cable to connect the computer with the TV or with the audio system you are going to use. If you already have external speakers on your TV, make sure you connect them with the Mac. If you have understood the pattern, things are just the same in any other situation. Depending on what slots you have and which situation from all those previously exposed you are experiencing, plug the adapter on either TV or computer and use the indicated connection cable.
