Avalon Acoustics is truly a unique loudspeaker manufacturer that designs and crafts masterpieces for the astute music lover who appreciates the subtlety and emotion of a moving musical experience. According to Avalon, their aim is to build the finest loudspeakers possible, without compromise. Well now, that means that these guys won’t refrain from using the most expensive materials and technologies for their loudspeakers.

Remember the Avalon Sentinel loudspeaker? A cool design, but way too expensive for the usual audiophile and aesthetics attained through uncompromising dedication to the highest quality standards. Avalon also has a more “affordable” model for us – the Opus.

Opus is a four-way design, utilizing a high-definition down-firing subwoofer. Benefiting from Avalon’s proprietary driver/cabinet alignment, the subwoofer achieves superb low frequency support that is smooth, evenly dispersed, and extremely accurate. Avalon further boasts that dynamic testing has yielded unsurpassed octace-to-octave energy balance, without compression, under the most demanding program conditions. The ingenious design of the cabinet confers low noise floor ambience retrieval, coupled with transient speed and resolution. Opus is thus able to reveal the subtle details of the recording site and the artist’s performance.

Check out some of the highlights:

-	Frequency response: 28Hz to 24kHz
-	Sensitivity :87 dB
-	Nominal impedance: 5 ohms
-	Recommended amplification: 30 to 300 watts
-	Speakers type :Floor
-	Dimensions: 1042(H) x 254(W) x 407(D)mm

If you feel like spending $13,995 on a couple of these beauties, good luck finding them at e-tailers.

Not really impressed with all those obscure brand names I’ve presented till now? Hold your horses, now. I know most of those designs are pretty down to earth and don’t really add much to the artistic impression. The truth is manufacturers are not that interested in looks as much as in performance. Avalon Acoustics has another opinion, though. Take a look at their Sentinel Active Reference System.

Avalon claims that Sentinel features all the latest groundbreaking technologies in high accuracy transducer development. In this sense, outstanding improvements were brought to diaphragm materials, three dimensional magnetic field modeling, low-noise circuitry, resonance control, and temporal coherence.

As far as design goes, Sentinel already earned prestigious awards like the “Component of the Year” and the “Edge of the Art Award.” Among Sentinel’s highlights you’d certainly notice the unique facet structure for proper polar response control. The cabinet construction uses Avalon’s proprietary multiple aperiodically damped internal chambers, coupled with out inert golden-section baffle design. The floor stand system also integrates dedicated subwoofer amplifiers with built-in active crossovers.

Need some tech specs? You got them:
-	Frequency response: 16Hz to 100kHz
-	Sensitivity: 88 dB
-	Nominal impedance: 4 ohms
-	Recommended amplification: 100 to 1000 watts
-	Drivers: Diamond Diaphragm Tweeter, 3.5″ Ceramic Dome Midrange, 9″ Nomex-Kevlar Composite Cone Woofer, 2x 13″ Nomex-Kevlar Composite Cone
-	Subwoofers Dimensions: 1753(H) x 432(W) x 940(D) mm
-	Weight: 415 kg

Don’t ask me about the price of these behemoths. Seriously, you don’t want to know. No, I’m not telling! OK… $ 84,995. Happy now?
