Either if you are looking for some small computer speakers or some powerful home cinema systems, there are many audio equipment producers to choose from. Some of the biggest name in the world are: Creative, JBL, Altec Lansing, Logitech, Genius, Harman Kardon, Bose but also Boston Acoustics. This company was founded in 1979, in the United States by Andy Kotsatos and Fran Reed. Now it has a great experience in this domain and its producing high quality speakers. You can find anything from audio systems, individual components, iPod or iPhone speakers and it also makes car speakers.
Among it's many products you can also find the MM 225 computer speaker system. It is a 2.1 system, that means it contains two stereo speakers and a subwoofer. It delivers a great and clear sound with a deep and powerful bass. It can be connected to many devices such as a computer, a laptop, an iPod, Zune, a CD / DVD or MP3 player and even to a Xbox or Wii gaming console.

It has a pretty good total power of 100 Watts RMS. This is divided into 25 watts RMS per each satellite and 50 Watts RMS for the subwoofer. As you can notice the design is simple and also small and compact. The dimensions for a satellite are: 251 x 70 x73 mm and for the subwoofer: 140 x 327 x 203 mm. They are also light so the system can be carried with you to use it with your MP3 player (or other type of music players). The weight of the satellites is 1.1 kg (2.6 lbs) and for the subwoofer 6 kg (13 lbs). Let's not forget to mention the price which is 180 dollars. For some of you it may seem too high, but after all it is a correct price, considering all the technologies included and the high quality of the sound.

Like you noticed, you can buy it in two different colors: black or white. The system comes with two satellite speakers, a subwoofer, a control pod and three audio cables. The installation steps are pretty simple. First connect the satellites into the L-SPK OUT and R- SPK OUT ports from the back of the subwoofer. Then connect the plug of the wired Control Pod to the Control Pod port from the subwoofer. After that plug the audio cable into the Line In port of the woofer and plug the other end into your computer or another audio source. You will just need to connect the power cable of the subwoofer to a power supply, and you are ready with the installation.

To get it started you will have to push the Power button from the wired Control Pod. The green LED will let you know that it is on. The Control Pod has the knob for the overall volume, and on the rear of the subwoofer you will find the volume control for the bass. On the back of the wired control unit you will also find the AUX jack (to connect other devices such as a MP3 player, iPod etc.) and the headphones jack. When you don't want to disturb the other people around you, you will just have to connect the speakers, and enjoy the sound on your own.
The Boston Acoustics MM 226 computer speaker system has very good ratings from both normal customers and professional users. One of the users says that he got the system for just 64 dollars from the internet, but in his opinion it really worth the retail price of 180 dollars. He is very satisfied with the power of the bass, which is not too loud but not quiet at all. It has just the right amount of power for an apartment room. He also advices the other users to get a better sound card, so that they can benefit from the maximum quality of this system.

Another user says that he is also very pleased with the system, which has a crisp sound and a deep bass. He jokes and says that BA does not stand for Boston Acoustics, but for "Bad Ass" (of course this means that the product is really good, like all the other products of this company). Another person recommends this system for any audiophile and says that this system really made his music to sound more sophisticated and wonderful.
One of the professional reviews says that the big subwoofer throws out plenty of bass, and the stereo speakers do a good job too. It brings out lots of volume, without a lot of effort. The switched.com site says that the MM 226 from Boston Acoustics is good because of it's very slim satellites that will not take a lot of space on your desk. They are also mentioning that the system is powerful enough for a whole office, so it's more than enough for a small room.

If you really care about the way your room looks, and you want to have everything very well matched, Boston Acoustics gives you the possibility to match your satellite speakers with the environment. The company offers multi color grilles for the speakers, at a price of 18 dollars. You can choose from different colors such as : glacier, chocolat, rose bud, chili pepper, onyx, silver, caramel or pearl gray.
So after all it is a very good 2.1 audio system, which will satisfy even the most pretentious users and will not let you down. And it really worths the price of 180 dollars.
